About the Role We are seeking an Associate Engineer /Consulting Engineer to join our Market and Transmission Analysis team. This is a full-time role for an early-career engineer with strong quantitative and analytical skills who is interested in working at the intersection of transmission planning, energy markets, and grid reliability. In this role, you will support a range of technically rigorous analyses related to transmission system performance, generator interconnection, and regional grid planning. You will work closely with senior engineers and consultants to develop data-driven insights that inform major energy infrastructure investments across North America. Our Markets and Transmission Analysis team advises some of the region’s leading energy developers, transmission companies, and utilities, helping them navigate complex power system challenges and evolving market dynamics. Typical project engagements include: Regional transmission planning studies Generator interconnection and development strategy analysis Planning and implementation of major regional and inter-regional transmission projects Preparation of generator interconnection applications Development of transmission plans, single-line diagrams, and performance assessments related to transmission expansion and grid optimization Short-circuit, dynamic, and transient stability analyses Transfer limit studies and transmission service studies This is an opportunity to: Build hands-on experience in power system modeling and transmission planning Work alongside experienced engineers on complex interconnection and reliability studies Develop analytical tools and insights that support major energy infrastructure decisions Gain exposure to the rapidly evolving North American power grid and energy markets Location We welcome applicants across the U.S., with a preference for candidates located in or open to relocating to Utah.  What You’ll Do Transmission Modeling & System Analysis Perform bulk transmission and interconnection analyses using commercial powerflow software such as PowerWorld, PSS®E, PSLF, or TARA. Support regional transmission planning studies and interconnection analyses. Evaluate transmission system performance under scenarios involving high penetrations of renewable generation and complex transmission buildouts. Perform studies including powerflow, transfer limit, reliability, and system performance analyses. Data Analysis & Study Development Develop technically sound study assumptions using the best available system data and market intelligence. Build and manage modeling datasets across power system simulation platforms. Develop generator interconnection powerflow models and support generator interconnection applications. Coordinate modeling efforts across internal teams and proprietary datasets. Technical Communication & Client Support Translate technical results into clear conclusions and recommendations. Prepare technical reports and presentations for internal teams and clients. Interface with clients professionally and clearly when discussing study results. Tools & Process Improvement Develop analytical tools and workflows using Excel or Python. Contribute to internal best practices for modeling, data management, and analytical processes. What You Bring Required Skills & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field. 3– 8+ years of relevant industry experience, preferably in transmission planning, power system modeling, or energy markets. Prior experience working at an ISO/RTO, utility, consulting firm, or energy developer is strongly preferred. Experience using powerflow simulation software (PowerWorld, PSS®E, PSLF, or similar). Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills, with proficiency in Excel and strong attention to data quality and organization. Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings and insights effectively through reports and presentations. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within small technical teams in a fast-paced consulting environment. Preferred Skills Experience performing power flow analysis, particularly using PowerWorld or TARA. Familiarity with generator interconnection processes and transmission service studies. Knowledge of FERC-jurisdictional transmission and interconnection processes. Familiarity with NERC Planning Standards and transmission planning criteria. Experience developing analytical tools using Python or other programming languages. Strong interest in the evolving power grid, including renewables, energy storage, and large-scale transmission development.
