Tanglewood Publishing is an independent children’s publishing company with an established catalog of titles and long-standing relationships with authors and illustrators. We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Publisher to oversee the editorial and operational side of the company.
This is a full-time, fully remote position reporting directly to the CEO/CFO. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, managing multiple responsibilities, and serving as a central point of communication for authors, illustrators, contractors, and production partners.
Position Overview
The Publisher will manage day-to-day publishing operations, editorial workflows, production coordination, and author relationships. This role requires a strong editing background combined with excellent organizational and communication skills.
The position is best suited for someone who is self-directed, detail-oriented, and capable of solving problems independently in a small business environment.
Responsibilities
• Perform developmental editing, copyediting, and proofreading for children’s titles
• Coordinate directly with authors, illustrators, and freelance contractors throughout the publishing process
• Review layouts and print proofs prior to production
• Manage print runs and coordinate with printers and vendors
• Maintain royalty tracking and assist with royalty administration
• Oversee publishing schedules, timelines, and operational workflows
• Manage company email correspondence and administrative tasks
• Maintain professional author and illustrator relationships
• Ensure all business communications receive responses within one business day
• Identify operational issues proactively and implement solutions independently
Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree
• Professional editing experience required
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
• Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
• Comfortable working independently with minimal oversight
• Experience working directly with authors, illustrators, or creative professionals preferred
• Experience in publishing operations, print production, or royalties is a plus, but training can be provided
• Ability to thrive in a small, fast-paced business environment where multiple hats are required
Compensation & Schedule
• Full-time, fully remote position
• Flexible schedule based on workload and deadlines
• Occasional travel may be required
• Compensation: $60,000–$70,000 depending on experience
