Chemistry Expert or Specialist (AI Training)
About The Role
What if your years of chemistry expertise could directly shape how AI reasons through complex scientific problems — from undergraduate fundamentals to PhD-level research? We're looking for Chemistry Experts to help evaluate and improve the scientific reasoning of cutting-edge AI models, ensuring they think rigorously, accurately, and like a true scientist.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for PhD-level chemists who want to apply their knowledge in a new and impactful way. No AI background required — your deep subject matter expertise is what matters.
• Organization: Alignerr
• Type: Hourly Contract
• Location: Remote
• Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
• Design advanced chemistry problems spanning areas such as organic chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, thermodynamics, and more
• Develop rigorous, step-by-step solutions that demonstrate expert-level reasoning and logical precision
• Evaluate AI-generated responses for scientific accuracy, depth of reasoning, and quality of explanation
• Identify gaps, errors, and weaknesses in AI outputs and provide structured, actionable feedback
• Collaborate with researchers to build and refine benchmarks across undergraduate to PhD-level chemistry topics
• Work independently and asynchronously — fully on your own schedule
Who You Are
• Pursuing or holding a PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a closely related field
• Strong problem-solving skills across advanced chemistry domains with the ability to reason from first principles
• Able to communicate complex scientific ideas clearly and precisely in writing
• Naturally detail-oriented — you notice when reasoning is flawed, incomplete, or imprecise
• Self-motivated and reliable when working independently
• No prior AI or machine learning experience required
Nice to Have
• Experience in data annotation, data quality assessment, or evaluation systems
• Background in academic research, curriculum development, or scientific writing
• Familiarity with AI tools or language model evaluation workflows
• Expertise spanning multiple chemistry subfields
Why Join Us
• Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs and AI teams
• Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
• Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, intellectually stimulating work
• Make a direct, tangible impact on how AI understands and applies scientific knowledge
• Gain exposure to how large language models are trained and evaluated
• Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
