Our client, a growing and well-capitalized specialty insurance organization, is seeking a Commercial Transportation Underwriting Specialist to join their team. This is an outstanding opportunity to be part of a collaborative, high-performing underwriting environment focused on disciplined, profitable growth within a specialized trucking portfolio. In this role, you will underwrite complex transportation risks, build and strengthen strategic agency relationships, and contribute directly to long-term portfolio performance. You’ll partner cross-functionally with claims, loss control, and leadership to drive underwriting strategy and deliver consistent results. This position offers strong visibility, a high level of autonomy, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a dynamic and expanding platform. Responsibilities • Underwrite new and renewal business within a specialized transportation/trucking portfolio • Evaluate risk exposures including driver profiles, loss history, operational practices, and equipment • Structure pricing, coverage, and terms aligned with underwriting guidelines and profitability goals • Develop and maintain strong relationships with agency partners to drive submission flow and retention • Apply underwriting judgment to select and manage risks within authority levels • Monitor book performance, including rate adequacy, loss trends, and retention metrics • Collaborate with internal teams (Claims, Loss Control, Actuarial) to enhance underwriting strategy • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and program guidelines • Provide insights on market conditions, emerging risks, and competitive trends Qualifications • 5+ years of Commercial Lines underwriting experience, with a focus on transportation or trucking risks • Strong understanding of commercial auto exposures, DOT/FMCSA regulations, and fleet operations • Experience underwriting complex or niche program business preferred • Proven ability to balance production goals with disciplined underwriting practices • Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build lasting broker/agent relationships • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while managing a dynamic workload Compensation & Benefits • $85,000 - $115,000 (depending on experience) & performance-based bonus • Comprehensive benefits package (Medical, Dental, Vision, Life) • 401(k) with employer match • Generous PTO and paid holidays Apply tot his job Apply To this Job
