Commercial Underwriting Guidelines Specialist

Job Description An opportunity exists for an experienced Underwriting Guidelines Specialist to develop and write comprehensive underwriting guidelines for admitted, multi-line commercial package products. This role involves partnering closely with product leadership to build industry-specific guidelines across multiple lines including property, auto, general liability, marine, crime, and umbrella, excluding workers' compensation. The specialist will also support training initiatives by creating materials and process documentation, ensuring underwriting practices align with regulatory requirements and industry standards. This is a remote position with potential travel for specific meetings or inspections. Responsibilities • Develop and document detailed underwriting guidelines for admitted multi-line commercial package products such as property, auto, general liability, marine, crime and umbrella. • Collaborate with product leadership to build industry-specific underwriting guidance tailored to sectors like manufacturing, construction, wholesale, retail, and hospitality. • Provide support for underwriting guideline implementation and training, including creating training materials and documentation. • Partner with cross-functional teams including actuarial, claims, compliance, and product to translate risk insights into actionable underwriting standards. • Ensure guidelines adhere to regulatory constraints and are aligned with filed rates, forms, and industry best practices. • Maintain an understanding of ISO forms, rating methodologies, and market developments to inform guideline accuracy and relevance. • Support continuous improvement of underwriting processes and decision frameworks to enhance consistency and risk selection efficacy. Requirements • 5+ years of underwriting experience in admitted, multi-line commercial business. • Experience working with manufacturing, construction, wholesale, retail or hospitality sectors. • Demonstrated ability to create and write underwriting guidelines, policies or manuals. • Knowledge of commercial property, auto, general liability, marine, crime and umbrella lines. • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business or related field. • Preferred certifications include CPCU, ARM, or AU. • Familiarity with underwriting systems and rule engines such as Guidewire or Duck Creek. • Proficiency in data analytics tools like Excel, SQL, and business intelligence dashboards. • Strong understanding of filed rates, forms, regulatory requirements, and ISO standards. • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex risk concepts into clear guidelines. • Analytical mindset with strong judgment and attention to detail. • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and adapt to evolving environments. Pay Range The anticipated pay range for this position is $45.00 - $48.00 per hour. The final pay for this position is determined based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant experience, skills and certifications, education and training, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity.
