Job Description: Communications & Events Intern Battered Women’s Legal Advocacy Project D/B/A Standpoint Background: Standpoint (formerly the Battered Women’s Legal Advocacy Project) is the premiere legal resource for domestic and sexual violence victims/survivors, as well as those who work with survivors including advocates, attorneys, and other professionals. Standpoint provides direct representation and legal information to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Standpoint also provides extensive training, litigation support, and expert legal support to those working with victims of domestic and sexual violence across the state of Minnesota. Standpoint exists to promote justice for, and to respond effectively to, the constantly evolving legal needs of domestic and sexual violence victims. Attorney Advocate Model: Standpoint recognizes that victims need both experienced legal counsel and an effective and skilled advocate. They share their knowledge and learn from one another in order to provide comprehensive legal support and promote systemic change in response to domestic and sexual violence. Position Overview The Communications & Events Intern will support Standpoint’s communications strategy, digital presence, and event execution. This role is ideal for a highly organized, creative, and detail-oriented individual who is eager to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, public engagement, and event production. The intern will work closely with Standpoint’s Communications and Events Team to help shape messaging, coordinate logistics, and ensure that our programs reach and resonate with the audiences we serve. Key Responsibilities Communications (60%) • Draft and edit content for newsletters, social media, website updates, and partner communications. • Assist with maintaining Standpoint’s social media and monitoring engagement analytics. • Support development of visual assets (graphics, flyers, event materials) using Canva or similar tools. • Conduct background research to inform messaging, outreach strategies, and content development. • Help maintain brand consistency across all external communications. Events (40%) • Assist with planning and logistics for virtual and in-person events, including trainings and fundraisers. • Coordinate event registration, attendee communications, and follow-up outreach. • Support day-of event operations: setup, check-in, tech support, note-taking, and other event related tasks. • Help produce event materials such as agendas, run-of-show documents, signage, and promotional content. • Capture event photos, quotes, and highlights for post-event communications. • Must be able to attend all events in person. Qualifications • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills. • Interest in community engagement, public policy, social impact, or nonprofit work. • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently. • Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook) and basic analytics. • Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools is a plus. • Comfortable working in fast-paced environments and supporting live events. • Detail-oriented, proactive, and collaborative.
