Job Description
The Utah Department of Agriculture is looking for a Meat
Inspector to partnership with our plant owners and ensure meat products are
clean, wholesome and properly labeled. You will gain hands on experience
inspecting meat slaughter and processing establishments.
Key Responsibilities
Ante-mortem and Post-mortem inspection for livestock.
Inspections of processing plants.
Work in conditions ranging from 100 degrees to
freezing temperatures.
Red meat viscera inspection requires palpitation of
organs and slicing with extremely sharp knives.
Check color and abnormalities of product that would
make it unfit for human consumption.
Driving to different regions to inspect meat
establishments.
Perform Sanitation Standards and Operating
Procedures, Hazardous Analysis and Consumer Protection tasks.
Qualifications
Perform complex inspections to ensure continuous compliance with State and Federal rules and regulations.
Evaluates livestock or poultry prior to slaughter for eligibility.
Ensures compliance with humane handling of livestock.
Performs ante-mortem and post-mortem inspection of livestock and poultry.
Evaluates and reviews establishment procedures and implementation of written programs.
Prepares and distributes reports and correspondence, conducts and documents meetings.Performs daily sanitation inspections both pre-operational and operational.
Schedules and performs inspection tasks for verification of compliance.
Documents findings of noncompliance, takes control when warranted.
Supplemental Information
Exposure to adverse, inclement, and varying weather
conditions
Must take and pass training courses administered by
the United States Department of Agriculture.
Risks which require the use of special safety
precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines,
working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc.
The work requires considerable and strenuous physical
exertion such as frequent climbing, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds,
crouching or crawling in restricted areas.
Valid
driver license required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per
UCA53-3-202(1)(a)
