Credit and Political Risk Underwriting Lead Position Overview HDI Specialty Insurance Company is seeking a Credit & Political Risk Underwriting Lead – North America to lead the development and profitable growth of the North American CPRI portfolio. This role combines senior underwriting responsibility, team leadership, broker and client relationship management, and strategic portfolio development. The successful candidate will play a key role in expanding HDI’s presence in the Credit and Political Risk market while ensuring disciplined underwriting and sustainable portfolio performance. Key Responsibilities Underwriting & Portfolio Management • Underwrite complex Credit and Political Risk transactions and manage a profitable portfolio of new and renewal business. • Deliver portfolio growth aligned with the North American business plan, including responsibility for approximately 65% of regional CPRI GWP. • Monitor portfolio exposures, aggregates, and performance. Broker & Client Development • Develop strong relationships with brokers, banks, public agencies, and select corporate clients. • Identify and originate new business opportunities within underwriting appetite. • Represent HDI in market meetings, client engagements, and industry forums. Leadership & Strategy • Lead and develop the North American CPRI underwriting team. • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to underwriters. • Contribute to the global CPRI portfolio strategy alongside senior leadership. Technical Expertise & Governance • Provide expertise on policy wording, coverage structuring, and bespoke clauses. • Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, and Operations on documentation and product development. • Ensure strong risk management, underwriting discipline, and portfolio governance. Qualifications • 10+ years underwriting experience, ideally in Credit and Political Risk Insurance • Strong expertise in political risk and credit risk coverage design and underwriting • Proven track record of building and managing profitable portfolios • Established relationships with global brokers, banks, and clients in the CPRI market • Experience leading or mentoring underwriting teams • Strong analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent industry experience • ACII, FCII, CFA, or similar professional designation preferred Compensation: Expected compensation is $200,000 - $250,000 base salary plus elibility for a performance based bonus.
