This vacancy may be filled at either the 1 or 2 level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at Level 1, promotion to the Level 2 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.What You Will Be Doing: As an Emergency Management Specialist II, this position assists the Outreach Branch Chief in creating, developing, implementing, and administering effective statewide emergency management preparedness outreach and educational programs. The role requires a strong working knowledge of disaster preparedness and response programs, as well as the ability to communicate complex information clearly through both written and verbal channels. Minimum Qualifications for Emergency Management Specialist 1: Range 14Two years of paraprofessional experience in emergency management, emergency response, natural resource management, planning, grant administration, or finance. The required experience includes work such as Emergency Management Assistant, Natural Resource Technician 2, or Accounting Technician 1 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.ORAn associate degree from an accredited college in emergency management or homeland security.ORA bachelor's degree, in any field, from an accredited college.Minimum Qualifications for Emergency Management Specialist 2: Range 16One year of entry professional level experience mitigating against, preparing for, responding to, or recovering from emergencies, disasters, or terrorist events. The required experience is met by service as an Emergency Management Specialist 1 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.ORTwo years of entry professional level experience either creating contingency plans, conducting exercises to evaluate plans and training, responding to events creating civil disruption or environmental disturbance, or coordinating the recovery from such events.ORA bachelor's degree, in any field, from an accredited college;ANDOne year of entry professional level experience either creating contingency plans, conducting exercises to evaluate plans and training, responding to events creating civil disruption or environmental disturbance, or coordinating the recovery from such events.Special Note: A valid Alaska driver's license is required.Some positions require the incumbent to obtain a federal security clearance.Work may require periodic, 24-hour on-call duty and travel to remote locations in small aircraft and boats, and may involve exposure to inherently hazardous or potentially dangerous environmental conditions.
