Job description: Job Description SummaryJob DescriptionEssential Responsibilities:As a Field Service Engineer - Power Systems, you will:
- Perform installation and commissioning activities at customer site locations during ship construction. Must be capable of working unsupervised.
- Performs troubleshooting activities at site locations during scheduled Port visits or at sea to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolution, and implements corrective actions.
- Performs a wide range of engineering tasks to ensure the technical integrity and proper installation and commissioning of GEPC Power systems and associated control systems.
- Provide support to engineering teams working on customer modernization projects.
- Provide support the bidding process for the customer modernization projects.
- Provide on call support in response to customer calls for service
- Complete timely service reports and other administrative requirements
- Perform work on-board vessels within GE / Customer safety guidelines either in shipyards or offshore.
- Extended hours / overtime maybe required during peak periods and emergency circumstances.
- Domestic or overseas travel to customer sites for extended periods of time.
- High School Diploma with a minimum of 15 additional years of related field service experience in a field service AND/OR commissioning environment with Power systems and associated control systems.
- Minimum 3 years of field service and/or commissioning experience in a field service/ commissioning environment with Power systems and associated control systems
- US Citizen with the ability to achieve security clearance for Department of Defense projects
- Ability and willingness to travel 85% of the time on short notice
- Ability to learn and follow defined departmental policies, procedures, and practices.
- Ability to prioritize workload and organize work activities in order to meet business needs and department goals.
- Perform work on-board vessels within GE / Customer safety guidelines either in shipyards or offshore.
- Extended hours / overtime maybe required during peak periods and emergency circumstances.
- Domestic or overseas travel to customer sites for extended periods of time.
- Must be physically fit to be able to board vessels offshore.
- Must be able to pass a HUET and offshore survival course which includes activities in a swimming pool.
- The work environment at onsite locations is of a construction type setting. Whilst performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of trips, slips and falls. The noise level on-site or on-board ships can be excessive, personal protective equipment (PPE) will be required.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills essential.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university (OR an Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university with a minimum 5 additional years of related field service experience in a field service/ commissioning environment with Power systems and associated control systems).
- Possess a detailed knowledge of Power system equipment for LV and MV power systems
- Switchgear- Medium Voltage and Low Voltage
- Circuit Breakers- MCCBs, ACBs, VCBs
- Sensing Instruments- PTs, CTs, Transducers
- Transformers- phase shifting transformers for VFD application
- Motor Control Centers (MCCs)- Basic Starters with Start/ Stop, Multi Speed Starters, Wye-Delta Starters, Hand/ Off/ Auto control, Local/ Remote control
- Soft Starters/ VFDs
- Transfer Switches- Manual and Auto
- Protection Relays- Generator, Transformer, Feeder, Motor, and Bus
- Enhanced generator protection schemes
- Power Quality meters
- Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVR)- Generator Excitation Control for synchronizing and load sharing
- Governors- Engine Speed control for synchronizing and load sharing
- Synchronizers/ Sync Check Relays
- Load Sharing Systems
- Ability to install, commission and troubleshoot GEPC Power systems and associated control systems, which require considerable engineering skill and independent judgment.
- Ability to travel to destinations in the USA or overseas at very short notice to troubleshoot existing Marine Power, propulsion, and control systems.
- Ability to learn and follow defined departmental policies, procedures, and practices.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills essential.
- Must be able to interact and communicate with internal customers. Internal customers may include production, engineers, and management personnel.
- Ability to prioritize workload and organize work activities to meet business needs and department goals.
- Must be able to independently arrange and organize work efforts on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis. Must be able to meet tight deadlines. Ability to multi-task on a consistent basis.
- Demonstrates a high degree of personal and professional ethics and integrity.
- Ability to make recommendations regarding job methods and departmental procedures.
- Strong computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize MS Office applications
