Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The Board Certified Genetic Counselor II is responsible for providing pediatric clinical genetic counseling services to patients and their parents. The Genetic Counselor II works collaboratively with our Geneticists and/or specialty providers to deliver comprehensive assessments and medical genetic counseling, reviews implications with the patient and families and provides crisis intervention regarding genetic conditions.
Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: 2+ years of experience as a Genetic Counselor required.
• Experience in pediatric genetics or equivalent work is preferred.
• Knowledge of clinical interpretation of exome and NSG-based tests is preferred.
• Solid experience in pedigree analysis, risk assessment, screening, testing, and counseling.
• Extensive understanding of human genetics, clinical features of genetic diseases, and genetic testing methodologies (cytogenetics, biochemical genetics, molecular genetics).
Education/Licensure/Certifications
Required:
• Master’s degree from an ABGC-accredited genetic counseling training program.
• Genetic Counselor License issued by the State of California.
• Board Certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or the American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG).
