The Department of English invites applications for Part-Time Instructors for fall 2026. Part-Time Instructors are hired on a semester-by-semester basis to teach English courses.
The successful candidate is expected to teach introductory and advanced level courses by the Department of English. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: teach face-to-face and/or online First-Year Composition (FYC)/Humanities/Creative Writing courses, attend training and/or review sessions. Additional duties will include, but are not limited to, academic advising of students, supporting student organizations, participating in program development and assessment. The candidate will be expected to work cooperatively with faculty and staff in the department and university.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The English faculty comprises distinguished scholars and passionate teachers, who care about helping students become the intellectuals and leaders of tomorrow. This department teaches students how to think critically as well as how to understand and communicate in a diverse world. We have had graduates go into drama, law, mass media, politics and education.
N.C. A&T's Department of English offers an undergraduate major and minor and one graduate degree (M.A.). Through the College of Education students can also pursue a M.A.T in English Education. Students working towards a B.A. in English take a core of ten classes and then choose an area of concentration in African-American Literature, Creative Writing, English Literature or Technical Writing. A B.S. is offered in Undergraduate Teaching (Secondary Education). Our classes address a variety of innovative and traditional subjects, from literary surveys to focused examinations of subjects such as film, science fiction and hip-hop culture.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must have a Master's degree in English or English Composition at time of application.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Candidates with 1-3 years teaching experience at the University or Community College level and with background in Rhetoric and Composition are preferred.
