What You’ll Do
As a Legal Assistant in our Reconciliation Department involves meticulously reviewing and organizing financial data related to legal settlements. Your primary responsibility is to create a comprehensive reconciliation report, commonly referred to as a “recon,” which outlines the financial breakdown of a client’s settlement.
Communication and Negotiation
• Calling all providers to determine if any balances are owed for treatment after the demand is sent.
• Negotiating with medical providers and health insurance regarding reductions, when appropriate.
• Verifying all health insurance, Med Pay, Ridley, and PIP payments.
• Reviewing health insurance ledger(s) and ensuring all paid claims are related to the accident.
• Reviewing and accounting for all case costs.
Reconciliation and Finalization
• Completing a full reconciliation documenting all medical bills and amounts still owing.
• Making sure all lines are accounted for on the reconciliation along with current balances.
• Finalizing all balances with Medicaid/Medicare/Health Insurance.

• Time Management: Efficiently allocating time to each case ensures productivity. Balancing urgency with thoroughness is vital.
• Team Meetings: Regular team meetings keep everyone informed, aligned, and up to date. Staying current with changes and updates is essential.
• Metrics Goals: Monthly performance metrics guide your progress. Meeting targets reflects your impact on client satisfaction and team success.
• Quarterly Team Goals: Metrics set up quarterly across departments to foster growth and collective achievement.
What You’ll Need
• Prior Experience: Experience in a medical office, insurance, or financial institution preferred, but not required.
• Comfort using Excel Spreadsheets and navigating computer systems.
• Attention to detail to meticulously review financial data.
• Strong organization to manage multiple components effectively.
• Analytical thinking to interpret complex information.
• Clear communication with stakeholders.
• Numerical proficiency and comfort with calculations.
• Strong time management to meet deadlines.
• Problem‑solving skills to investigate and resolve issues.
