Howdy howdy howdy.
I've produced 12 films including Napoleon Dynamite, written a bunch of quirky children's books, and taught at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Now I'm a keynote speaker.
And I need someone to make all of that make sense visually.
My keynote is called Playing with Dynamite. I tell behind-the-scenes stories from Napoleon Dynamite, Back to the Future, and The Cat in the Hat while teaching the stages of film production — Action!, Cut!, That's a Wrap! — as an operating system for executives to focus creative teams under pressure, the way we do in making movies.
The tone: High Stakes Thought Leadership + Indie Authenticity. Smart and cinematic, but homespun. Authoritative, but just weird enough to be interesting.
The design should meet corporate audiences where they live — then surprise them and fill their hearts with nostalgia and fun.
The blend will be: 40% powerhouse thought leadership+corporate, 30% cinematic, 30% nostalgic+weird.
“Corporate” makes them feel safe and in the hands of a professional.
“Cinematic” makes them feel like they are getting to see something new and special.
“Nostalgic+Weird” is the thing they remember.
Think:
• Sundance poster meets Apple launch keynote
• SpaceX schematic meets County Fair
• Clean structure with moments of genuine personality
• Current but not sterile
• Kitschy enough to feel authentic
The visual system will be applied to:
• Keynote slides
• Video highlight reel
• Website
• Promotional materials
Starting Assets
• Napoleon Dynamite video clips (the cow scene)
• Napoleon Dynamite behind the scenes pictures (Tina the llama)
• Hilariously nerdy school pictures from the 80s & 90s
• Back to the Future behind the scenes photos
• The Cat in the Hat imagery
• Avengers movie posters
• Imagery from my new children’s book about a steampunk mad-scientist adventure penguin.
Deliverables:
• Typography + color palette
• 4–6 slide templates
• Graphic treatments for the film production rituals: Picture's up! Rolling! Action! Cut! Going again! Moving on! Martini is up! That's a wrap!
• Video title styles for the highlight reel
The right person will love this project. We'll know each other immediately.
Beyond this project, I’m looking for my future go-to designer.
To apply — visuals, please:
• 2–3 pieces showing range and personality that feel like a fit
• Thoughts on how you'd approach "thought leadership power" meets "county fair charm"
• Optional: reference images, or mood board collage.
• And very importantly, what are your favorite movies? (No judgment - I love The Princess Bride)
Bonus points if you’re fluent in PowerPoint and Keynote
Hiring: 5 days
Delivery: 1–2 weeks

Let's build something that lets the corporate world feel the fun, surprising, fulfilling part of what we do.
