PURPOSE

This position is for the 2023-2024 school year only. It is supported by a federal grant and may not be renewed following the 2024-25 school year.

This position is for a teacher who will design and implement reading and writing intervention for English Learner students in the middle school and high school newcomer programs. The teacher will work with refugee and EL students in small group instruction, pushing into the regular classroom, and/or co-teaching with the classroom EL teacher(s).

Note: All duties described in this job description are intended to be fulfilled either in online or in-person classes, or a combination of both, as determined by student and district need.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports To: Building Principal and Director of English Learners (EL) and Migrant Education

Supervises: None

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum: Education: Appropriate academic preparation to be certified by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate in one or more of the following areas: MO K-12 ESOL, MO K-12 Special Reading Teacher Certification, and/or MO ELA certification in middle school or high school.

Preferred: Prior teaching experience either at the elementary or secondary level. Bilingual preferred. Prior experience as a Title I teacher, reading interventionist, literary specialist, literacy coach, or other literacy-related teaching positions. Prior experience teaching English Learners.

Ideal Candidate: Familiarity with standardized tests, the ability to analyze data, and experience with special education would be considered assets. Excellent computer skills required. Knowledgeable in SIOP and/or other best practices for EL learning.

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active.
