Associate Attorney – Debt Defense (Independent Contractor) About the Firm: We are a growing commercial litigation practice focused on business debt defense and consumer debt defense. Our clients include small businesses and individuals facing lawsuits from creditors, debt buyers, and merchant cash advance companies. We manage a high-volume caseload and pride ourselves on efficiency, excellent client service, and strong legal advocacy. Position Overview: We are seeking an associate attorney to join our team as an independent contractor. This role combines both litigation support (drafting, research, filings) and overseeing client-facing work (consultations, communications and settlement negotiations), providing the ideal candidate a well-rounded experience and engaging work. The supervising attorney will provide oversight and final review, but this role offers independence, flexibility, and the opportunity to manage files from start to finish. Key Responsibilities: · Assess case defenses. · Research and draft oppositions to motions for summary judgment. · Prepare discovery responses and objections. · Handle settlement negotiations with creditors and opposing counsel. · Draft and finalize settlement agreements and track compliance. Qualifications: · Licensed attorney in New York (other states a plus, but not required). · 1–3+ years of litigation experience (commercial debt defense, collections, or general civil litigation preferred). · Knowledge of small business debt defense and Merchant Cash Advance (MCA) industry preferred · Strong legal writing, research, and procedural skills. · Excellent communication and negotiation skills. · Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple files. · Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
