The Purchasing Agent is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing goods and services for the organization in a cost-effective and timely manner. This role ensures that procurement activities align with company policies, quality standards, and strategic goals, while maintaining positive relationships with suppliers.
Key Responsibilities:
• Source and procure materials, equipment, and supplies from multiple vendors, obtaining competitive quotes to ensure best pricing and value
• Negotiate aggressively with vendors on pricing, delivery terms, and contract conditions to minimize costs and maximize value for the company
• Continuously evaluate and compare vendor proposals, leveraging competitive bidding to drive cost savings
• Build and maintain strong vendor relationships while holding suppliers accountable to quality, delivery, and pricing commitments
• Issue and manage purchase orders from initiation through delivery, ensuring accuracy and timely fulfillment
• Track and reconcile order status, invoices, and delivery confirmations with meticulous attention to detail
• Maintain organized and up-to-date procurement records, vendor databases, and pricing histories in Excel
• Prepare detailed purchase reports, cost analyses, and spend summaries using Microsoft Excel
• Communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams, vendors, and management via written correspondence, email, and verbal communication
• Identify and onboard new vendors to expand the supplier base and increase competitive leverage
• Assist in developing and refining purchasing policies, workflows, and best practices
• Coordinate with project managers and operations staff to anticipate procurement needs and avoid supply delays
• Review and verify invoices against purchase orders, flagging discrepancies for resolution
Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain operations, preferably in a corporate or manufacturing environment.
Skills & Competencies:
• Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency in procurement software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Coupa) and Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Working Conditions:
• Office-based with occasional travel to supplier sites, trade shows, or company facilities.
• Standard business hours with occasional extended hours during peak procurement cycles.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
