I run Summed News (summed.news), a U.S.-focused local news summary website that helps people quickly catch up on local news from verified sources across all 50 states.
I’m looking for a Reddit-savvy virtual assistant or community assistant who can help share useful local news summaries and discussion posts in relevant subreddits.
This is not spam posting and not mass promotion. I need someone who understands Reddit culture, follows subreddit rules, and can write posts that are genuinely useful, interesting, and discussion-friendly.
Your Main Task
You will help create and post thoughtful Reddit posts based on interesting local news trends from Summed.news.
Examples of post angles:
• “5 weird local stories from Florida this week”
• “A lot of housing stories are popping up in Connecticut this week — here’s what I found”
• “Top local government updates in California this week”
• “Interesting trend: several school budget stories across [State]”
• “Here are a few local stories from [State] that didn’t make national news”
The goal is to start real conversations, not just drop links.
Responsibilities
You will:
• Research relevant subreddits by state, city, topic, and community interest
• Read and follow each subreddit’s rules before posting
• Write natural Reddit-style posts
• Avoid spammy or repetitive language
• Post useful summaries, facts, or observations from Summed.news
• Include links only when appropriate and allowed
• Track posts in a Google Sheet
• Record subreddit, post URL, date, title, whether link was allowed, and engagement
• Report which types of posts perform best
Important Rules
You must:
• Never spam
• Never post the exact same text across multiple subreddits
• Never ignore subreddit rules
• Never pretend to be a customer or fake a personal story
• Never argue with moderators or users
• Never use bots or automation
• Never mass-post links
• Be transparent when appropriate that the post is based on a local news summary site
The ideal style is helpful, curious, and community-focused.
What I’m Looking For
You should be:
• Experienced with Reddit
• Familiar with subreddit etiquette
• A good casual writer
• Able to write in a natural, non-corporate tone
• Detail-oriented
• Comfortable using Google Sheets
• Able to identify which posts are helpful versus promotional
• Honest about which subreddits allow links and which do not
First Test Project
For the first project, I want you to:
1. Find 30 relevant subreddits for local news, state news, city news, housing, public safety, events, and community discussion.
2. Create 10 Reddit post drafts based on Summed.news content.
3. Post 3 approved posts manually in suitable subreddits where the rules allow it.
4. Track results in a Google Sheet.
Do not post anything until I approve the first few drafts.
Deliverable
A Google Sheet with:
• Subreddit name
• Subreddit URL
• State/city/topic
• Rules about links/self-promotion
• Suggested post angle
• Post title
• Post body
• Whether posted
• Post URL
• Engagement notes
