Remote Inpatient Coding Auditor

About the Opportunity HIMpros is partnering with a hospital system to engage experienced inpatient auditors for a remote, project-based assignment. This role focuses on reviewing inpatient records for coding accuracy, DRG integrity, and compliance. It’s a strong fit for auditors who are detail-driven and comfortable working independently in a high-volume, acute care environment. Engagement Type • Contract (project-based, fully remote) What You’ll Be Doing • Review inpatient encounters to validate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and DRG assignments • Evaluate documentation to ensure it supports coded diagnoses, procedures, and reimbursement • Identify coding discrepancies, trends, and areas of risk • Provide clear audit findings and recommendations for correction or improvement • Collaborate with coding and CDI teams as needed to resolve documentation or coding issues • Track and document audit results in accordance with project expectations • Maintain productivity and quality standards in a remote setting What You Bring • Strong inpatient facility coding background with auditing experience • Minimum 5+ years of acute care inpatient coding experience • Proven experience reviewing DRG assignments and reimbursement accuracy • Solid understanding of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and DRG methodologies • Experience working within EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, etc.) • Experience working with encoder tools such as 3M or Optum CAC • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently Why Consider This Role • 100% remote contract opportunity • Project-based work with a defined scope • Exposure to complex inpatient cases • Opportunity to focus strictly on audit work without operational distractions Requirements • Inpatient coding: 5+ years (Required) • Acute care experience: 5+ years (Required) • Prior auditing experience: Required • Teaching hospital and/or high-acuity experience: Preferred Certifications • AHIMA certification required (CCS preferred; RHIA/RHIT acceptable) Pay: $40.00 - $52.00 per hour Benefits: • 401(k) • Dental insurance • Flexible schedule • Health insurance • Health savings account • Life insurance • Paid time off • Professional development assistance • Vision insurance Experience: • IP Auditing: 5 years (Required) • ACUTE CARE/HOSPITAL: 5 years (Required) License/Certification: • RHIT (Preferred) • RHIA (Preferred) • CCS (Preferred) Work Location: Remote
