Remote Political Data Researcher
LegiStorm LLC is seeking a full-time, remote Political Data Researcher with exceptional online investigative talent who can solve our toughest research challenges through deep analysis, attention to detail and strong logical reasoning.
As a key member of our content team, you will become an expert in a wide range of political and lobbying data and play a role in maintaining and expanding some of the most accurate and comprehensive political datasets available. The current opening focuses on data related to the U.S. House and Senate, with opportunities to research elections, members of Congress and their offices, revolving door staffers, as well as congressional committees and caucuses.
This is a highly detail-oriented research position focused on uncovering, verifying and connecting information about organizations, public officials, lobbyists and related entities to compile accurate, comprehensive records that tell the full story behind the data. Successful candidates must be able to identify subtle inconsistencies, recognize patterns and relationships, and carefully follow detailed procedures and editorial standards to ensure the highest level of data quality and accuracy.
The ideal candidate enjoys investigative research, thrives on precision and problem-solving, and takes pride in producing highly reliable work. This role requires someone who can work independently, manage priorities in a fast-moving environment and respond professionally to direct, candid feedback in a quality-driven workplace focused on minimizing errors and maintaining high standards.
If you have writing experience or strong writing ability, you may also have opportunities to contribute short news/blog items and assist with a weekly newsletter. These items are occasionally cited in national news stories.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct extensive online research across a wide variety of public and proprietary sources
• Investigate and verify details related to organizations, political entities, public officials, lobbyists and related individuals
• Identify discrepancies, irregularities and relationships within complex datasets
• Compile and maintain highly accurate structured records and data profiles
• Follow detailed research procedures, editorial standards and internal documentation practices
• Contribute to ongoing data quality improvements and process refinement
• Prioritize and manage multiple research tasks in a fast-moving environment
• Maintain a high level of accuracy, consistency and accountability while working independently
Required:
• Exceptional internet research skills and the ability to use search engines to their fullest potential
• Strong logical reasoning skills and the ability to analyze complex situations
• An eye for detail and the ability to recognize subtle inconsistencies or irregularities
• A naturally skeptical approach toward data, with a willingness to question assumptions and verify information
• The ability to follow detailed procedures carefully and consistently
• An enterprising, self-motivated work ethic with strong independent working skills
• Professionalism and resilience in receiving direct, candid feedback in a high-standards environment
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills
• General political awareness
• A quiet, professional workspace with reliable internet access
Preferred:
• At least two external monitors (our tech stipend can help you build the ideal setup)
• Strong writing and editing skills, with opportunities to use those skills if desired
• Advanced knowledge of AP Stylebook or other style guides
• Understanding of basic data analysis tools and team communication platforms
• Interest in and willingness to grow AI skills as opportunities arise
Qualifications
• Minimum of three years of professional work experience
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
