Thermo Fisher Scientific is a leading company in serving science, and they are seeking a Senior Account Manager for Life Sciences Electron Microscopy to drive growth by managing strategic customer relationships across academic institutions and research universities. This role focuses on cryo-electron microscopy solutions and involves building relationships with key customers to support advancements in structural biology and advanced imaging research.
Responsibilities
- Own all sales and account management responsibilities for Life Sciences Electron Microscopy solutions within academic institutions, national laboratories, and research centers across the assigned multi-state territory
- Focus on cryo-EM platforms, sample preparation workflows, and volume EM technologies supporting structural biology and advanced imaging research
- Develop and execute strategic account plans aligned to institutional priorities, grant funding cycles, and core facility growth initiatives
- Build strong relationships with principal investigators, lab managers, core facility directors, and university leadership across the region
- Identify, develop, and close opportunities across the full workflow, including instrumentation, automation, software, and service offerings
- Maintain accurate quarterly booking forecasts and provide regular updates to management
- Develop deep understanding of academic funding mechanisms, including federal grants (e.g., NIH), institutional funding, and shared instrumentation programs
- Confirm system configurations, specifications, and acceptance criteria to ensure successful order closure
- Partner with application scientists and product specialists to deliver technical demonstrations, workshops, and seminars tailored to academic audiences
- Drive adoption of advanced workflows such as single-particle analysis, cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), and large-volume 3D imaging techniques (e.g., serial block-face SEM, FIB-SEM)
- Support and grow user communities and core facility networks, including workshops, seminars, and user group activities across the territory
- Manage product evaluations and proof-of-concept engagements in collaboration with internal teams
- Coordinate with field service and support teams to ensure excellent customer satisfaction and long-term success
- Maintain continuous learning to stay current with rapid advancements in cryo-EM and volume EM technologies and academic research trends
Skills
- Academic Degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, or engineering
- 5+ years of professional experience in Academia and Government commercial environments
- Proven expertise in capital equipment sales of scientific instrumentation in Academic/Government accounts
- Demonstrated ability to propose creative solutions to complex problems
- Management track record of building relationships, driving results and making ethical decisions
- Operate in culturally different and diverse environments
- Track record of delivering results and self-accountability
- Knowledge of business and commercial excellence
- Experience with Digital Marketing tools and platforms
- Multiple years experience in sales training platforms (e.g. Miller Heiman)
- Advanced knowledge of customer relation management systems (CRM's)
- Deep knowledge of the Academia and Government commercial landscape in North America
- Ability to generate pipeline and business opportunity leads
- Ability to drive an effective sales strategy with an existing North American sales team
- Ability to sell strategic and new products to existing and new customers
- Ability to increase our market share by generating new business leads
- Demonstrated ability to hold self and others accountable for results
- Collaborate with, and nurture strong partnerships with multinational and cross-functional matrix teams
- Meeting or exceeding pipeline and bookings targets
- Work remotely, flexibly, and travel up to 50%

- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Experience supporting or selling cryo-EM, cryo-ET, or volume EM workflows
- Familiarity with academic core facilities and shared instrumentation models
- Experience engaging with grant-funded purchasing processes (e.g., NIH, NSF)
- Miller-Heiman strategic and conceptual selling experience is highly desirable
- Ability to secure access to U.S. Government laboratories and facilities
