The Senior Payroll Consultant will support client engagements focused on payroll operations, compliance, and process improvement, working closely with team members to deliver high-quality solutions and navigate complex payroll challenges.
Responsibilities
- Support payroll consulting engagements across a range of clients, industries, and geographies
- Assist in assessing and improving client payroll processes, controls, and procedures
- Perform multistate payroll compliance reviews, including federal, state, and local regulations
- Support payroll tax activities, including preparation and review of forms (e.g., 941, 941-X, W-2C)
- Assist with payroll setup and configuration, including earnings, deductions, and tax treatments
- Analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies, risks, and opportunities for improvement
- Support reviews related to employee classification, wage treatment, and overtime calculations
- Research and apply payroll regulations, including reciprocity and other multistate considerations
- Collaborate with internal teams and clients to deliver timely, accurate, and high-quality work
- Communicate payroll concepts and findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Contribute to project deliverables and ensure work is completed on time and aligned with expectations
Skills
- 3 years of payroll experience, ideally within a consulting firm, payroll provider, or in-house payroll function
- Bachelor degree required
- Strong understanding of payroll processes, compliance requirements, and multistate regulations
- Experience with payroll tax forms and filings
- Familiarity with payroll systems such as ADP, Workday, SAP, Oracle/PeopleSoft, Paycom, Paycor, or similar platforms
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Bachelor's degree in, Accounting, Human Resources, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification strongly preferred (or in progress)
