ProphetX is a prediction market focused on sports, seeking a Senior Accountant to support the CFO in building the financial infrastructure as the company scales. The role involves owning the financial close process, preparing financial statements, and driving process improvements in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Own the monthly and quarterly close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis
- Prepare accurate financial statements: balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow in line with US GAAP
- Reconcile accounts and subledgers, identifying and resolving discrepancies before they reach leadership
- Maintain the general ledger in ERP, including chart of accounts integrity and proper department coding
- Support external audits by preparing PBC schedules and serving as the primary accounting contact for auditors
- Coordinate tax compliance support with external advisors, including state filings, sales tax, and 1099s
- Identify manual workflows and drive process improvements and automation across the accounting function
- Deliver ad hoc financial analysis and reporting that translates numbers into clear insight for the CFO and leadership team
Skills
- Active CPA license (required)
- 2–5 years of experience in public accounting
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- Strong command of US GAAP, including revenue recognition, accruals, and financial statement presentation
- Proven ownership of month-end and quarter-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis
- Experience preparing or supporting financial statements: balance sheet, P&L, and cash flow
- Familiarity with internal controls and audit readiness; experience supporting external auditors
- Exposure to tax compliance support including state filings, sales tax, or coordination with external tax advisors
- Comfortable in a fast-moving, ambiguous startup environment where processes are still being built
- Highly organized and detail-oriented; able to manage competing deadlines without sacrificing accuracy
- Clear communicator who can translate financial data into actionable insight for non-finance stakeholders
- Experience in fintech or a similarly regulated or high-growth industry
- Familiarity with CFTC-regulated or financial services environments
- Experience working directly with a CFO or in a lean finance team where you wore multiple hats
- Background in process improvement or ERP migrations and finance automation tooling
- Experience with multi-entity or multi-currency consolidations
