PeerSource is currently recruiting for a Senior Ruby on Rails Developer on a Contract basis for our client in Atlanta, GA. Although someone local to the area would be preferred, we also would consider someone primarily remote from anywhere in the CT/ET time zone. No third parties.
Summary
We are seeking an experienced Ruby on Rails Developer to build and enhance production web applications in a highly collaborative environment. This role will focus on scalable backend development, API integrations, background processing, and modern frontend technologies while leveraging AI-assisted development tools to improve delivery and quality. Candidates should be comfortable communicating technical tradeoffs, surfacing risks early, and contributing to a test-driven engineering culture.
Responsibilities
• Design, build, and maintain scalable production web applications using Ruby on Rails.
• Develop and optimize database models, queries, and integrations leveraging ActiveRecord and PostgreSQL.
• Build and support frontend functionality using React and TypeScript with a focus on maintainable component architecture and strong typing practices.
• Implement and maintain background processing workflows (e.g., Sidekiq or similar), ensuring idempotency, resiliency, and retry safety.
• Develop and maintain integrations with third-party systems through APIs, GraphQL and/or JSON services, and secure webhook implementations.
• Contribute to a test-first engineering culture with an emphasis on integration testing and application reliability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate technical tradeoffs, proactively identify risks, and deliver scalable solutions.
• Support performance, observability, and debugging efforts across backend and frontend systems.
Required Skills
• 8+ years of experience building production web applications with extensive expertise in Ruby on Rails.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools, preferably Claude Console.
• Strong experience with ActiveRecord, with experience across PostgreSQL, React, and TypeScript highly preferred.
• Experience with background processing frameworks (e.g., Sidekiq or similar), API integrations, GraphQL and/or JSON services, and secure webhooks.
• Familiarity with multi-tenant applications supporting multiple user personas and modern frontend tooling such as esbuild and Tailwind.
• Understanding of observability, performance optimization, and security fundamentals including SQL injection prevention, XSS, authentication, and authorization frameworks (e.g., Devise, Pundit, JWT).
• Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate technical tradeoffs and surface risks proactively.
