SHE Specialist 0 Environmental

About the position AstraZeneca is seeking a seasoned Safety, Health & Environment Professional to support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental compliance and sustainability programs. In this role the SHE Specialist will partner with cross-functional stakeholders to identify opportunities, gather data, and prepare inputs for regulatory and corporate environmental reports; and advanced campus initiatives in waste reduction, resource efficiency, and sustainable operations to enable R&D, clinical supply manufacturing, and business functions. Responsibilities • Gather and aggregate data/information for environmental compliance and sustainability reports to support AZ performance reporting, benchmarking and regulatory requirements. • Drive continuous improvement of the environmental and sustainability programs and assist in compliance and sustainability reviews of new projects. • Work effectively to manage & deliver projects in a team environment, including in-depth collaboration between SHE, Lab Operations and Site Operations • Be a contributing member on the cross-functional Energy and Resources Management Team guiding the team towards efficient use of natural resources. • Analyze historical event data, leading indicators, and in-field observations and provide recommendations based upon analysis. • Develop and update environmental procedures. Develop, update and facilitate environmental training programs. • Perform environmental audits and inspections, including identification of non-compliance, non-conformities and corrective actions. • Complete environmental permit applications, regulatory reports & voluntary award applications to local, state and federal regulatory agencies or 3rd party entities • Oversee wastewater sampling, including review reports from wastewater contractors to ensure compliance with permit requirements. • Drive sustainability analytics and efficient building operations by overseeing internal/external metric collection and data governance; quantifying carbon, energy, and water reductions using sound engineering methods; continuously monitoring facility systems to ensure optimal performance, escalating issues to Facilities, recommending operational improvements, and regularly presenting natural resource consumption insights to the team. • Lead ISO 50001 Energy Management System execution: track and document quantifiable energy reductions, identify and resolve nonconformities through corrective actions, and advance continual improvement across EnPIs, baselines, and operational controls. • Communicate on environmental compliance and sustainability across campus via forms of print, electronic, and in person. • Assist with promotional and educational materials by writing, editing, and designing content brochures, fliers, bulletin board displays, newsletters, sustainability guides, and training materials etc. • Submit regulatory reports & voluntary award applications to county, city, state, or 3rd party entities. Requirements • A bachelor’s degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering or a STEM related field. • Two or more years of applicable work experience • Work effectively on multiple projects at once and respond to rapidly changing demands. • Knowledge of Federal, State, and industry Environmental regulations and sustainability trends. • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, within all levels of the organization. • Exercise judgment while being insightful, logical and methodical. Nice-to-haves • Prior experience and/or knowledge of building systems: boilers, air handling units, cooling towers, chillers, water purification equipment. • Experience with environmental compliance and sustainability data analysis with exposure to regulatory interactions and reporting.
