Subject Matter Expert - Physical Therapy Program Development

About the Role: We are seeking an experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Physical Therapy (PT) education to support the design, development, and academic review of a new Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. The SME will play a critical role in ensuring curriculum quality, clinical and laboratory education standards, regulatory compliance, and alignment with accreditation requirements for delivery in on-ground and hybrid formats. Key Responsibilities: • Design and develop program curriculum, course outlines, and syllabi for Physical Therapy education, covering didactic, laboratory, and clinical education components • Develop clinical and laboratory learning experiences and define clinical education (internship) requirements • Review and update existing program documentation to ensure academic rigor and current practice relevance • Align curriculum with Puerto Rico and Florida regulatory requirements, institutional policies, and national accreditation standards • Ensure program compliance with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), the recognized accreditor for PT programs in the U.S. • Integrate clinical competencies, lab components, simulation, and hybrid/online learning best practices • Support preparation for the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE), administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) • Support preparation of accreditation documentation, self-study reports, and program outcomes assessment • Collaborate with curriculum specialists, instructional designers, and academic leadership Qualifications: • Licensed Physical Therapist (active, unrestricted license) • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) preferred; advanced or terminal degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, DSc) a plus • Minimum 5+ years of clinical and/or academic experience in Physical Therapy • Prior experience in curriculum development, program review, or accreditation processes preferred • Strong knowledge of PT practice areas (musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and integumentary) • Familiarity with hybrid and competency-based education models Regulatory & Accreditation Knowledge (Required): • Working knowledge of CAPTE accreditation standards, the recognized benchmark for PT education in the U.S. • Understanding of physical therapist licensure and the role of the NPTE in both Puerto Rico and Florida • Knowledge of clinical education requirements and preparation for the NPTE Preferred Skills: • Experience designing Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)-level programs • Knowledge of clinical partnerships and clinical education (internship) models • Experience working with Learning Management Systems (LMS) Expected Deliverables: • Program framework and curriculum recommendations • Course sequencing review • Course descriptions and learning outcomes validation • Industry competency mapping • Regulatory and accreditation guidance • Review of program documentation and submission materials • Participation in meetings with institutional leadership and curriculum teams Equal Opportunity Employer Statement: We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity in our academic and professional community.
