About the position
Under general supervision of the Telecommunications System Manger I (Supervisor), the Telecommunications Assistant's duties include providing support of District's campus-wide Telecommunications wiring infrastructure in support of phone/voicemail/network and internet connectivity, security cameras, and employees and vendors for the annual San Diego County Fair. Duties will also include various tasks associated with the District's handheld radios.
Responsibilities
• Receive and respond to work orders from employees and vendors regarding phones, internet and radio related installations and repairs determining best solutions.
• Analyze and resolve problems according to priorities and time frames
• Assist with fixing the technical causes (no just symptoms) of telecommunications issues, doing what is necessary to prevent the problems from recurring
• Troubleshoot through diagnostic techniques using test equipment to repair wiring faults.
• Use a variety of Telecommunications tools, test equipment, gold cars and ladders.
• Assist with all levels of customer service providing end user training in support of phones, voicemail, radios and internet both wired and wireless.
• Interact with employees, vendors sponsors and partners with high levels of customer service.
• Assessing supply requirements prior to all installations.
• Abide by and support District policies and procedures.
• Assist with Telecommunications projects, which includes crawling in tight spaces, on ladders, aerial lifts, and entering confined spaces.
Requirements
• Previous Telecommunications experience.
• Experience installing and troubleshooting low-voltage cat 3/cat 5/fiber optic wiring networks.
• Excellent customer service and ability to work cooperatively with team members and business partners.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate efficiently both in writing and verbally about technical issues.
• Maintain acceptable, consistent, and regular attendance.
