Position Summary KIND seeks a Temporary Deputy Director, Legal Training to serve as a legal expert responsible for strengthening the quality and reach of legal services provided to unaccompanied immigrant and refugee children. This role combines deep legal expertise with instructional leadership, contributing to  the development and delivery of training and technical assistance (TA) across KIND’s national network of field offices and pro bono advocates. The Deputy Director also plays a leading role in development and delivery of KIND’s labor exploitation prevention work, , while contributing to broader organizational strategy, global capacity strengthening, and special projects as directed by the SVP, Partnerships. This is a remote position based from any location in the U.S.  This position is contingent upon continued funding. n Essential Fucntions Training and Technical Assistance Provides expert legal consultation, guidance and training to unaccompanied children’s advocates to support and enhance provision of free high quality legal services to immigrant and refugee children.  Oversees the development and review of core training content to be localized and delivered by KIND field offices to ensure quality control. Oversees consultant materials production – reviewing and editing content and coordinating with consultants to finalize materials.  Research and identify platforms or technical tools to facilitate and streamline the provision of legal technical assistance. Informs maintenance and design of web-based portal to implement knowledge management best practices and user-centered design for access to legal technical materials and training. Reviews and edits legal guidance and advisories, sample briefs and filings, and other relevant materials.  Provides legal technical expertise across KIND’s teams to support the development of KIND’s work to protect and defend unaccompanied children.   Labor Exploitation Prevention Develops and delivers training content on labor exploitation prevention and human trafficking, with particular focus on the private sector. Partners with the Senior Vice President, Partnerships, Capacity Strengthening, and Training (SVP Partnerships) to develop strategy for private sector engagement on labor exploitation prevention.  Contributes to consultancy with university partner that will inform future direction of KIND’s labor exploitation prevention and trafficking work.    Other Responsibilities Supports SVP Partnerships to carry out a range of special projects, including program development and planning for UNHCR deployment scheme. Support may include strategy development, budget development, research and analysis, among other duties.  Collaborates to support the development of organization wide and jurisdiction specific legal training and technical assistance strategy.   Contributes to developing and implementing a global capacity strengthening approach, working with training, technical assistance, and capacity strengthening colleagues across jurisdictions.  Qualifications and Requirements Licensed attorney in good standing. Minimum of 6 years of experience in the immigration field, preferably including representing immigrant children. Expertise in humanitarian immigration legal claims on behalf of children, including Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, asylum, U visa, and T visa claims. Deep understanding of human trafficking and labor exploitation of children and experience with programming seeking to prevent and/or respond to trafficking and exploitation of children. Knowledge of, and ability to use, learning management software technology and willingness to learn new technology. Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including in both formal (litigation, regulatory) and more directly interpersonal (training, mentoring) formats. Experience formulating and presenting trainings and legal guidance and providing technical assistance on immigration law, policy, and procedure to lawyers, paralegals and others. Proven track record developing program strategy and program plans. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (such as Teams, Excel, etc.). Ability to work collaboratively and multi-task in our KIND environment, managing numerous priorities and emerging opportunities. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects in a deadline-oriented environment; ability to prioritize tasks and delegate as appropriate. Ability to multitask and work with a sense of urgency in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
