GENERAL OVERVIEW The Field Sales Representative is responsible for driving market adoption of Metrc’s product across the assigned territory cannabis retail landscape. This field-based role requires regular in-person engagement across assigned territory, and candidates must reside in or a bordering state of the designated territory with the ability to travel frequently. This role focuses on building strong in-person relationships with licensed retailers, delivering impactful product walk-throughs, and managing the full sales cycle from initial outreach to closed business.
The ideal candidate is a self-driven, consultative salesperson who thrives in a fast-paced environment, excels at on-site engagement, and represents Metrc with professionalism at retail visits, events, and industry gatherings. This position plays a key role in expanding Retail ID’s footprint within a highly regulated and rapidly evolving market.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Core duties and responsibilities include the following.
• Manage and execute a regional field sales strategy targeting licensed cannabis businesses within assigned territory
• Conduct on-site sales visits, product walk-throughs, and relationship-building with owners, managers, and decision-makers.
• Source, develop, and close new business opportunities, moving prospects through the full sales cycle from initial outreach to signed agreement.
• Maintain a deep understanding of the cannabis retail landscape, competitive environment, and market trends.
• Partner closely with Sales Development Rep, Marketing and CSM to follow up on warm leads, scheduled demos and qualified opportunities
• Engage Solutions Engineers for technical support and enhanced product demos when needed.
• Coordinate seamless handoffs with the Implementation and Support Teams to ensure strong customer onboarding and long-term adoption.
• Maintain updated opportunity notes, pipeline movement, and activity logging in Salesforce.
• Deliver clear value propositions, positioning statements, and in-field product demonstrations leveraging approved sales talk tracks.
• Address objections, provide high-level product insights, and guide prospects through next steps.
• Represent Metrc professionally at industry events, retail site visits, and community cannabis market gatherings.
• Maintain accurate pipeline data, territory notes, and forecast updates in Salesforce.
• Meet or exceed assigned sales metrics, outreach volumes, and quarterly revenue targets.
• Participate in sales training, role-playing, and ongoing skill-building sessions.
• May perform other additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
• 2–5 years of experience in field sales, account executive work, territory management, or outside sales, preferably in SaaS, retail technology, or regulated industries.
• Experience engaging with small-to-mid-size business owners; cannabis retail experience a plus but not required.
• Strong relationship-building and consultative selling skills.
• Comfortable with on-site sales, in-person presentations, and closing deals independently.
• Excellent verbal communication, active listening, and objection-handling skills.
• Ability to work autonomously in the field, manage a regional schedule, and prioritize outreach effectively.
• Proficiency with Salesforce or similar CRM platforms.
• Coachable, adaptable, and motivated by a fast-growing, mission-driven environment.
EDUCTIONAL BACKGROUND
• Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent applicable experience.
TRAVEL
This position requires frequent field travel throughout the assigned territory (50–75%). Candidates living in bordering states must be within reasonable travel distance and able to support daily or frequent travel within the assigned territory.
