Editorial/social media internship for sports/fan experience website

Apply Now
The Stadium Insiders is a media site covering the fan experience and sports tourism. We create stadium guides to help fans figure out how to see sports in stadiums/cities they haven't been to, keep them informed with daily news and creative editorial content so they know what's happening in the areas of ticketing, schedules, stadium food, gameday experiences, stadium news, etc., and will be rolling out various applications such as road trip planners, interactive seating charts, and deal finders to help fans stay on top of everything they need to know to plan the best sports outings. We are looking for editorial/social media interns to contribute to the platform. Candidates will be expected to write 1-2 short news stories per week, and contribute to 1-2 feature stories per month. You'll also have the opportunity to help us create social media content , and even create content in the field at your local stadium(s). Expected weekly commitment is 5-10 hours. This is a fantastic opportunity to get writing/editorial/journalism/social media experience in a fun industry. Please note: a cover letter is required to apply for this opportunity. Please see the notes below, and send it to [email protected]. Qualifications --Current sophomore, junior, or senior at a two or four-year college in the United States or Canada. Graduate students are welcome to apply as well. (Professionals who would like to write about the fan experience are also welcome to apply, but again: this is an unpaid position). --Open to journalism majors or those who have other writing/multimedia experience (such as working on your university's student newspaper or other relevant publication). We want people who are thinking about writing/creating content professionally, or are at least committed enough to be investing their free time to it. --Must have a passion for writing. We love writers who love to write. --Must have a passion for sports. Experience attending sporting events is desired, but not required. BUT … it’s important to understand that we do NOT cover what happens on the field. This is not a “sports journalism” position. If you are looking to write about what happens on the field, this isn’t the right opportunity for you. We cover the fan experience, not the game itself (but we obviously know that the two are closely related). --Must be a self-starter who can meet deadlines and do great work without direct supervision. Is that you? Be honest! We’re a media company – we meet deadlines. --Experience using WordPress and Photoshop. This is an unpaid internship, but if applicable, we are willing to sponsor candidates for course credit. Expected start date will be in May, after the spring session ends, and the internship will run through the end of the summer. To apply, please submit your resume, along with a cover letter. Come on … it’s a writing gig -- you didn’t think you could get it without proving to us that you can write, did you? Your cover letter should include some combination of the following: · Why you are interested in the position and why you think you would be a good fit. · What are your favorite team(s) and why? · What has been your most memorable fan experience? It doesn’t matter if you attended the event or not – whatever the experience was, we want to hear about it. Were you standing outside of Wrigley Field when the Cubs won the World Series? Were you at a game in Buffalo in 12 feet of snow? Did you rush the field after your team pulled a big upset? Did you meet your favorite player at a 7-11? Every sports fan has a sports story. We want to hear yours! · What would be your ideal sports road trip and why? No rules on this … it can be a 30-city MLB stadium tour, an afternoon at Wimbledon, or watching a game on TV with a special friend or relative. Whatever it is, explain it to us. PLEASE APPLY ON LINKEDIN, AND SEND YOUR COVER LETTER TO [email protected]. Cover letters must be received within four days of applying. After that, incomplete applications will be deleted. Video interviews will take place in April and May for selected candidates. Please be patient while we consider all applications. Come help us help sports fans be more effective sports fans!
