The Account Review Specialist is responsible for account resolution, data updates, and ensuring accurate patient balances while assisting patients with inquiries.
Responsibilities
- Use and maintain knowledge of multiple computer systems and payer portals/web-based applications or systems on a daily basis
- Responsible for full account resolution, including the review/audit of all activity
- Update data in appropriate systems and filing for insurance
- Provide financial assistance information and ensure proper and timely account adjustments
- Review and confirm accurate patient responsible balances
- Provide assistance to patients and patient's family phone calls and walk-ins
- Review to ensure appropriate payment posting and identification of overpayments/refunds due
- Enter any account notations
- May have additional duties assigned that are within scope of the role
Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong planning, organizational and decision-making skills
- Must be able to work independently and multi-task
- Strong analytical and lateral thinking skills
- Must be able to communicate and negotiate with a variety of internal and external constituencies
- Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of medical terminology and experience with third party payers
- Ability to maintain professional and customer centric composure in difficult or challenging situations while maintaining confidentiality
- Knowledge of HIPAA standards and regulations
- Organizational and time management skills
- Ability to provide positive customer service experience to guests, visitors and patients
- Ability to prioritize workload to achieve maximum efficiency
- Minimum 2 years medical billing/collection or related experience
- Previous experience working in healthcare with knowledge of third party payers and denials
- CPAR certification
