They are seeking a Director of Software Engineering to own and evolve their marketing technology ecosystem while leading engineering teams to deliver complex solutions that enhance customer experiences.
Responsibilities
- Own and evolve the marketing technology (MarTech) ecosystem, including CRM, CDP, and customer data platforms that power personalized customer experiences
- Define and execute long-range technology strategy for marketing, customer data, and engagement platforms aligned to Petco’s commerce and customer experience vision
- Lead architecture and integration across platforms such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Service Cloud, Adobe Experience Cloud, and related systems
- Partner cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, Data, and Engineering to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions
- Drive customer data strategy, including identity resolution, segmentation, and lifecycle marketing capabilities
- Lead and mentor engineering teams (developers and QA) delivering complex MarTech and CRM solutions
- Remain hands-on when needed—configuring platforms, troubleshooting, and optimizing performance
- Establish best practices for marketing automation, customer journey orchestration, and customer care workflows
- Oversee integrations across MarTech, CRM, and eCommerce platforms
- Define and execute a build vs. buy strategy, including development of custom tools, APIs, and platform extensions
- Use data and analytics to drive continuous optimization and measurable business outcomes
- Partner with program and product teams to define roadmaps, priorities, and delivery plans
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Marketing, Information Technology, Business, or a related field required
- 12+ years of experience in marketing technology, with deep hands-on expertise in platforms such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC), Salesforce Service Cloud (SFSC), Adobe Experience Cloud, Oracle Eloqua, Epsilon, or similar
- Strong experience with customer data systems, CRM, and CDP platforms, including identity resolution solutions (e.g., Reltio or similar)
- Proficiency in SQL and/or Python, with experience working with large-scale customer datasets
- Proven experience leading and mentoring technical teams, including engineers and QA
- Strong understanding of marketing automation, customer journey management, CRM, and customer care workflows
- Hands-on ability to configure systems, troubleshoot issues, and optimize platform performance
- Experience designing and managing integrations between marketing platforms, CRM systems, and eCommerce environments
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven mindset
- Experience building or extending platforms through custom tools, APIs, or internal services
- Ability to operate with high autonomy and strategic ownership
- Strong influencing skills with senior stakeholders across business and technology
- Deep expertise across software development lifecycle, data architecture, and platform engineering
- MBA or advanced degree preferred
- Salesforce certifications (Marketing Cloud, Service Cloud) or equivalent certifications preferred
