General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (OTS) is a global leader in the design, engineering and production of munitions, energetics, weapons, armaments, and missile subsystems. The Mechanical Engineering Director will lead the Solid Rocket Motor design and analysis group, overseeing the development and performance analysis of mechanical components and systems, while ensuring projects meet organizational standards and best practices.
Responsibilities
- Provides leadership to managers and may also have professional staff
- Must have at least one manager level direct report
- Is accountable for the performance and results of multiple related teams
- Develops departmental plans, including business, production and/or organizational priorities
- Decisions are guided by resource availability and organizational objectives
- Consistent exercise of discretion & judgment
- Oversees a team of mechanical engineers that design, analyze, and maintain mechanical components and systems to meet specified requirements and standards
- Utilizes CAD software and other design and modeling tools to plan, develop, and improve mechanical parts or components and communicate conceptual designs and specifications to stakeholders
- Oversees prototype testing to evaluate the performance, reliability, and safety of mechanical systems and reviews data and analysis to develop improvements
- Implements departmental policies and procedures to delegate workflow and ensure projects are completed on time and within required specifications and quality standards
- Leads the research and development of innovative or new technologies to improve existing products or processes
- Ensures projects follow organizational best practices for design, prototyping, and testing
- Leads and directs the work of other employees and has responsibility for personnel actions including hiring, performance management, and termination with concurrence from HR & General Managers
Skills
- Associate's Degree and 8-10 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience
